EarMen TR-Amp is a battery-powered DAC and Amplifier with power up to 400mW it should cover most of the hungry power headphones or earphones. Let?s dig deeper into the EarMen TR-AMP review.

EarMen is a new brand company under the Auris Audio, the devices are designed and engineered by their affiliated company Auris Audio, EarMen carries on the legacy of sound that has established Auris as known for high fidelity audio world. Unlike Auris products, however, EarMen is designed exclusively to enhance portable listening.
What?s in the Box ?

- EarMen TR-amp
- USB-C cable
- Carrying pouch
- Rubber band
- Manual
The packaging was down professionally, it looks good with good material. There a room for improvement for the manual feels like printed from a home printer.
I would love to have a different converter/cable included with this Tr-Amp since it?s supposed to be compatible with portable devices which can range from DAP, Amplifier, Android, iOS, etc.
EarMen Tr-Amp Review Design

The casing made from aluminum. The case is solid and has good quality. The red color has a nice striking color, 3 color selection (red, grey and black) is available.
Considering as a portable unit, it?s a little bit too big for me because of the 3700mA battery size (for up to 10 hours playing time). The heat management is pretty good, it has very minimum heat when I connect this to the computer.

At the front, There?s a volume knob, 1/4 inch and 3.5mm output. Near the volume knob, there?s a led indicator light.

At the back, RCA line output, 2 USB port: one if for charging and the other is for data (with this, you can use and charge the Tr-Amp at the same time).
The pre-out switch at the back has the function to bypass the internal amp and use an external amp.

For the DAC, Tr-Amp is using ES9038Q2M SABRE 32 bit which promises an unprecedented dynamic range and ultra-low distortion.
For the Amp, Tr-Amp is using TPA6120 current-feedback AB amplifier architecture which promises to deliver high bandwidth, extremely low noise, and up to 128dB of dynamic range.
One unique feature is the MQA support, you can fully utilize the tidal master quality. With MQA, it will deliver an authenticated and unbroken version (typically 96 kHz / 24 bit) with the highest possible resolution. By the way, you need to have the Tidal HiFi subscription to enjoy this and not all song has the master edition.
Sound Impression

the first thing that I noticed when listening to Fragment – Eir Aoi with the EarMen TR-AMP is the power. the Headphone (ATH-M50) immediately unleashed its capability comparing it from my soundcard. After switching back to my soundcard, it sounds thin and flat.
The ATH-M50 is neutral but it becomes more dynamic because of TR-AMP. it’s able to deliver a rich and bold sound. I don’t hear that much impact when I tested my Noble Sage Wizard earphone.
listening to the prayer – Josh Gorban / Charlotte Church, both female and male rendered naturally. Audition (The Fools Who Dream) – Emma Stone, the TR-AMP surprisingly smoothen the background noise.
There’s an improvement on the soundstage, the horizontal space becomes wider and I don’t really hear the difference in the vertical space.
The Tr-Amp is a neutral DAC/AMP that doesn’t inject its own sound signature instead it will enhance whatever you’ve with more dynamic and clarity. it’s basically will unleash the potential of your headphone/earphone.
If you are looking for something musical (something that will add warmth) maybe EarMen Tr-Amp is not suitable for you because of the neutral sound.
EarMen Tr-Amp Summary

I like the build quality, the size is perfect when I put this beside my computer. It’s a little bit bulky if bring it outside with me.
how much it will improve the earphone/headphone? it depends on the earphone/headphone, because of its nature it might not add a significant difference but for sure it will deliver a clean and dynamic sound using EarMen Tr-Amp.
EarMen Tr-Amp is a perfect companion if you are looking for a neutral and powerful DAC/AMP.
